Mark's VL LE Calais Turbo
Readers may know this vehicle as Georges LE from calaisturbo.com. Now one of the most pristine Brock Commodores ever is owned by Mark (Sin) from the very same site. Even the King himself has given the car the thumbs up, Peter Brock ended up signing a number of items including the glovebox and rocker cover. He even wrote the following words on the sunvisor: "If I drove this, then just maybe. I would have number 10 at The Mountain!". The vehicle was purchased brand new in October 1986 from Claridge Motors in SA and carries HDT Build No. 3510.

Naturaly the LE handles like a gem thanks to HDT's Bilstein suspension package, LSD, and 16" Momo Star wheels. Interior is purely HDT with Scheel appointments and the adition of an Alpine stereo system. HDT also installed their famous Hollandia electric sunroof to the car which is a big time bonus for Mark.
The Evening Blue LE also has a small but very important item installed, the Energy Polarizer. Now it's debatable as to whether these little devices actually do anything, but what's not debatable is their value, and now their collectability. Having one of these in t he car really makes it a true collector's item as Brock only put Polarizers on a limited number of the HDT cars. He stopped putting them on the VLs to address Holden's concerns well before the HDT operations ceased.
The previous owner managed to clock a mere 25,000 kms in the first 7 years and Mark also has in his posession all the original paperwork for the LE including: The original certificate of authenticity (framed) with HDT Build Number 3510 and signed by Peter Brock stating the LE was built to V.I.P. specifications, the original Polarizer certificate, two additional Polarizer decals, and original fitting instructions, the owners handbook, letters from HDT to the GMH dealers advising them of the specifications of the VL HDT models that will supersede the VK model and original media releases for the "NEW CALAIS LE by HDT".
The
car has seen only a few modifications from its standard from
and some of
the enhancements include:
a massive Bosch fuel pump from a new 6 litre 300kw
Mercedes that usually runs at 70psi, 3 inch Mandrel bent
exhaust, 3 inch stainless high flow Super Cat catalytic
converter, K & N air filter in the original housing, a mechanical fuel pressure gauge mounted in the
boot, VDO engine and intake temperature gauges and a mechanical
oil pressure gauge, VDO boost pressure gauge in place of the blank plate
just left of the HDT Momo steering wheel, a DEI 3 point passive immobiliser that is in addition
to the Cobra alarm system as required by many insurance
companies, an HDT Momo gearknob, and leatherwork on the centre console arms rest, hand
brake, gearshift boot and glovebox.
So you can see that not only is this car extremely rare, it has been kept as original as possible. This will ensure that the model is preserved and its collectability remains. Thank you to Sin (Mark) for letting us use the photos of the car.
